I get it. The busy noise of life drowned out my heart’s cry for many years. I know what it is, out of necessity, to be committed to what you’re not passionate about. I pretended I didn’t hear my heart’s cry, as my dreams, vision, and passion died, languishing through lack of intentionality.
But the good news is, we serve a God who raises the dead. With the Holy Spirit, I’ve learned how to risk feeling and pursuing the passion God put in my heart. And you know what? It’s worth it.

DAVE: Before we started, what was the scariest or most intimidating thing about defining your calling?
RANDI: I suppose I felt a little skeptical because I’ve been searching for a clear vision or goal for a long time. I’ve been blessed with a lot of varying talents and interests (most of them artistic or language-related), and it’s hard to commit to one path or to find a way to combine them. I just want a vision I can keep in front of me when things get difficult! I’ve started to develop one recently that I think I can stick to, but something still seems missing.
DAVE: What benefit did you receive?
RANDI: Loose threads that had been floating around in my head for years started to tie together. Even things I had thought about but dismissed suddenly made sense. I have a new, exciting idea that feels like it’s been simmering for a while! And I love that I can repeat the process for a new vision when that one has been realized.
DAVE: What would you say to someone on the fence?
RANDI: I’ve gone through a lot of books and workshops to clarify my goals, dreams, or other types of vision, and they were helpful, but this was something else. It upends the usual process of starting with your dreams, desires, talents, etc., and I think that’s what makes the difference. It’s also highly practical and concrete, and it’s geared toward what vision we can work with NOW rather than trying to set a course for your entire life. If you have a few ideas of things you’d like to do or problems you’d like to help address in the world, but you don’t know how to narrow it down or choose the “right” one, this process will definitely help.
